January Book Wrap Up – Reads, Ratings, Reviews

⭐⭐⭐/5 - Matched is the 3rd book in Bella Lore’s Mortal series. In it, Winter Grace is forced to keep moving in hopes of saving the supernatural race, even though she just found out less than two weeks ago she was supernatural herself. Matched continues our journey with Winter as she searches for the magical coin and tries to always stay a step ahead.

⭐⭐⭐/5 – This was our first ΦΜ book club read and although I found myself not wanting to put this novel down, I just couldn’t help by cringe at the story. It left us quite disappointed and confused as to why Carley Fortune decided to go down certain paths, instead of others.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – Before We Were Innocent was Reese Witherspoon’s December 2023 book club read. I wasn’t prepared for this adventure with Bess & Joni [& Evangeline]. It’s a wild story how one lie can change your life, but the truth can set you free.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – I was so excited when I noticed the American Royals book 4, Reign, was available on Libby. I loved this twisted story about the Washington family and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all the family members lives. Heads up, this is not about the Washington family you’re thinking about, this Young Adult, Chick-lit read is set in current day America, with a twist, instead of a first family, we have a royal one, with a Queen.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – Housemaid was our Gloss Book Club January read — Overall we all enjoyed Frieda McFadden’s Mystery Thriller. It left us wondering what the future has in store for Millie and her new, employment. I personally will be reading book 2 of the Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret to find out!

⭐⭐⭐/5 – This Chloe Del Rey was an ARC offered by Chloe del Rey. It was a cute & quick story and not at all what you’d think it’s about based off the cover.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – The Serpent & The Wings of Night was suggested to us by one of my sisters in our ΦΜ book club, and it easily became one of our book club sub reads. I flew through this story and will be completing this two book series in February. In this series we follow Oraya through a challenge of sorts, that she’s hoping to win. Problem is she’s human, and her competitors aren’t.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – I’ll start off by saying, I am automatically biased when it comes to Jenny Colgan are all feel good reads to me that I just can’t get enough of. In this second book of The Christmas Bookshop stories, we follow Carmen who is trying to find her place in Edinburgh while making a difference. This story talks about goals at the end of your life, love despite cultural differences and family.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – This story may not be for everyone, but I found it especially powerful. It talks about mental health and growing as a person, which hits closer to home than most people care to admit, especially while dating and trying to find your person. I really, really enjoyed reading this Coming of Age, Chick-lit novel by Genevieve Wheeler.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – This series was suggested to me by someone I met at our Gloss Book Club December Discussion – She suggested it to me because I mentioned I was in a post-Fourth Wing/Iron Flame reading slump, and she had heard it was a similar read. I’m officially over halfway through this 4 book series – and although it is different than Fourth Wing, I can see why people would suggest this Young Adult Fantasy series. Let’s just say, I have been eagerly listening and following Princess Rowan’s time across the kingdom hoping to know how things turn out.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 – I didn’t think things would get much better than the story line in Scarlet Princess but I was wrong – just when I thought things had reached their peak, total switch and I’m completely here for it. Personally I am team Lemmikki but I guess I’ll have to keep listening and see if that changes!
