RyanAir is the best thing out there for flying around Europe… but only once you get the hang of their rules.
What I mean is that RyanAir is a budget airline, so in true budget airline fashion – their flights are cheap, but everything is an add on cost. Such as seat selection, overhead baggage, drinks and priority boarding. Which is okay, as long as you know what to expect, and how to prepare for you, you’re golden!
First off – your ticket includes one personal item that fits under nearth the seat in front of you. This is where you can save the most money, by limiting yourself to a bag that fits in that space. Suggested bags: Osprey Porter 30L & Beraliy’s Travel Backpack.
Secondly – select random seat allocation. This will allow the airline to pick your seat for you. Which in most cases, your flights will be between 1 and 3 hours, so sitting away from your friends/family, won’t be a huge deal. However, once you get a random seat allowance, if you want, you can go back and pay to change one person’s seat, instead of paying for 2 seats.
If you know for a fact, you won’t be able to fit all your items in your one personal item, then make sure to select a carry-on or checked bag with your ticket purchase. That is when the additional bag option will be cheapest. You can still opt to add baggage closer to, and during check-in for decent prices. However, once you get to the airport, the price will sky rocket for carry-on and checked bags.

Food & Drinks – Most of us are used to at least a drink and a very small snack included in our flights. That’s not the case with RyanAir, so consider bringing a reusable water bottle with you and filling up once you get past security in addition to bringing snacks from outside the airport. Another option is to buy a drink or snack while you’re waiting in the airport to board, or pre-order items through the RyanAir app ahead of time. You can purchase items on the plane though. Just remember, RyanAir is a cashless airline.
Perks of bringing a carry-on bag, you get moved to Priority boarding status, meaning you get to get on board first to ensure you have an overhead slot.
RyanAir also offers a package when booking your ticket that includes additional luggage, priority boarding and seat selection so that is something to consider, but honestly if you’re aiming to travel economically, for a short flight to get from one European country to another, the under seat allowance is plenty, you just have to plan ahead!
Happy Traveling!
